The Vashon Community PTSA is made up of all kinds of islanders: parents,  grandparents, students, teachers, school staff and concerned citizens who want to help make our schools top notch. Its members are people who realize that the quality of a community’s education directly affects the caliber of its citizens.

While fundraising is not our primary goal, we have made huge strides in supporting academic and enrichment programs at all three public schools. In the past several years, we have raised in excess of $50,000 annually during our PTSA auction. Most of this money has been used to purchase much needed books, which have enabled significant improvements in curriculum. The PTSA also funds over $17,000 in programs each year, including the Science Fair, Science Nights, Teen Forums, Popcorn Fridays, emergency preparedness for the Vashon School District and many others. Additionally, Vashon PTSA is your voice in the schools and your representation with the State PTA’s important legislative issues.

Our mission is to help create a superior learning environment by partnering with parents, schools and the community.

We do this by:

• Developing fundraising strategies to supplement classroom and extracurricular programs;

• Increasing communication between home and school;

• Supporting teachers and administrators in their efforts to create a healthy and challenging classroom environment;

• Creating opportunities to bring families into the schools;

• Educating the community on local school board and legislation issues.
